The best AI powered website chatbot for non-programmers

With the release of Zoho SalesIQ v2 in May 2021, I now believe that it is the best option for non-programmers who would like to add an AI powered chatbot to their websites. And this is especially true if you get it as part of the Zoho One app bundle. I explain why in the video below.

‌[00:10] Background

  • ‌I have been helping people build Dialogflow chatbots for 4 years via courses, tools and consulting
  • Many of these have been website chatbots
  • I have kept a fairly close watch on this topic for a while

[00:56] Zobot Code less Bot builder

  • ‌In May 2021, Zoho released v2 of their SalesIQ live chat
  • The v2 release introduced the codeless bot builder
  • In my view, the code less bot builder in Zobot is the best AI website chatbot for non-programmers

[03:22] Zoho One

  • ‌Better to get SalesIQ as part of the Zoho One subscription
  • Zoho One has 40+ apps as of 2021
  • Usually cheaper than getting individual apps
  • Enables more powerful chatbot solutions

[04:24] You can add NLU to parse what the user said

  • ‌If you need to parse the user’s input, call an NLU powered API such as Dialogflow or RASA NLU
  • Do it when the user’s message will result in a branching of conversation logic
    • Conversely, don’t do it if it isn’t really necessary
  • This can be done by using the “Plugs” block and then combining it with the “Criteria Router” block to branch the conversation logic

[06:07] Plugs and Criteria Router Example

[06:50] A functional visual Dialog Builder

  • ‌The visual dialog builder in code less bot builder is powerful but also quite user friendly
  • Getting this balance right has turned out to be a very hard problem

[08:06] Easy transfer to live agent

  • ‌When the bot is unable to answer the question, you should be able to transfer the chat to live agent easily
  • This is very easy to do in a Zobot

[10:16] Direct integration with low code database

  • ‌Usually I recommend Airtable
  • Zoho Creator is an Airtable alternative, but more powerful

[12:31] Use Zoho Flow to connect with your external apps

  • ‌You might also want your bot to talk to external (to Zoho) apps
  • Zoho Flow is an alternative to Zapier
  • It allows you to create integrations, often without any code, to connect with your external software systems

[14:11] Easy to measure and improve bot performance

  • ‌Since the NLU is built using a custom integration, you can log all the conversation responses to a spreadsheet – Zoho Sheet in this case
  • Once these conversations are logged into a spreadsheet format, you can calculate things like bot accuracy and bot deflection rate quite easily

[17:55] Live chat bells and whistles

  • ‌Since SalesIQ is fundamentally a live chat software, you also get a lot of bells and whistles that you automatically get in live chat
  • E.g. auto-remind or prompt user after X minutes of inactivity
  • This is really challenging in regular Dialogflow bots

[20:32] Auto-save to CRM

  • ‌One of the frequently requested features when people are building chatbots
  • There is a block which allows you to do this automatically in the code less bot builder
  • Zoho CRM is Zoho’s flagship product, so automatically saving this information also gives you access to many other CRM-related features behind the scenes (e.g. send an email campaign to this lead using Zoho Campaigns)

[21:50] Auto-convert to support ticket

  • ‌One of the frequently requested features when people are building chatbots
  • There is a block which allows you to do this automatically in the code less bot builder
  • You can then follow up on this support ticket using Zoho Desk, a full fledged help desk app

[22:38] Automatic email notifications when chats complete

  • ‌This is another often requested feature
  • This happens automatically in Zoho SalesIQ

[23:09] View chat transcript

  • This is yet another frequently requested feature in bots
  • Since Zoho SalesIQ is primarily a live chat tool, you will find this is much more user friendly than e.g. Using the History feature inside Dialogflow console and other such options

[24:37] Some notes for non-programmers

If you are a non-programmer, there is another important factor to consider.

Every single feature in this list you build (or ask your programmer to build), you are spending money on a feature which is already available out of the box via Zoho One.

On top of that, now you need to rely on your programmer to fix it if something breaks in one of these features.

Also, by reducing the “surface area” of the new features which need to be built out, you are also going to have a much better understanding of how your bot works. In turn, this will also make it much easier for you to maintain your chatbot.

"The magic key I needed as a non-programmer"

The custom payload generator was the magic key I needed (as a non-programmer) to build a good demo with rich responses in DialogFlow Messenger. I've only used it for 30 minutes and am thrilled. I've spent hours trying to figure out some of the intricacies of DialogFlow on my own. Over and over, I kept coming back to Aravind's tutorials available on-line. I trust the other functionalities I learn to use in the app will save me additional time and heartburn.

"Much clearer than the official documentation to be honest"

Thanks a lot for the advice (of buying and following your videos)! They helped a lot indeed. Everything is very clear when you explain, much clearer than the official documentation to be honest 🙂

"I will strongly recommend this course because even I can learn how to design chatbot (no programming background)"

I think Aravind really did a great job to introduce dialogflow to people like me, without programming background. He organizes his course in very clear manner since I have been a college professor for 20 years. It is very easy for me to recognize how great Aravind’s course is! Very use-friend and very easy to follow. He doesn’t have any strong accent when he gives the lectures. It is so easy for me to understand. Really appreciate it.

Yes, I will strongly recommend this course because even I can learn how to design chatbot (no programming background) after studying Avarind’s course, you definitely can!

  • […] Things you cannot do in Dialogflow Messenger I am often asked about these things, which you cannot do in Dialogflow Messenger, or at least not without significant programming cost – add bot typing delay – allow the visitor to maintain the conversation session across multiple pages – reprompt the user automatically after some period of inactivity – automatically end the conversation after prolonged user inactivity – transfer chat to live agent – automatically get email notification when chat completed – automatically save user information to a database If you need any of these things, I recommend a low cost alternative called Zoho SalesIQ. See how SalesIQ compares with Dialogflow Messenger. You can integrate SalesIQ with Dialogflow ES with the click of a button. On top of that, SalesIQ is flexible enough to build many different kinds of bots, including a non-programmers friendly visual dialog builder which I believe might be the best AI powered website chatbot builder.
